Subcritical heat pumps
The expander is not tied to one industry. It fits any vapour-compression system that runs below the refrigerant’s critical point — which is most heat pumps and refrigeration plants in service today.
The principle, not the sector
Every subcritical vapour-compression cycle throttles high-pressure liquid across an expansion valve, and every one of them destroys the pressure energy as heat. It does not matter whether the machine is freezing a warehouse, cooling a production line or heating a district — the same step wastes the same work, and the expander recovers it.
The device is designed for industrial heat pumps and refrigeration systems from roughly 100 kW thermal capacity, new or existing, with no rotating components in the refrigerant stream.

Where it does most
The gain grows with the temperature lift and with the running hours. So the systems that benefit most are those that run a large lift for many hours a year — but any subcritical system gains something, and the calculator shows how much for your own operating point.
Natural refrigerants
The calculator covers the natural refrigerants: CO₂ (subcritical), ammonia, propane, isobutane, butane, isopentane, pentane and cyclopentane. Synthetic refrigerants are available on request.
